Spring in Seattle : My first visit to a capital of North West in April 2008. Megue once visited the city a long time ago with her late father. We had so much fun to experience what the city offers. Above all, we were so grateful for friendliness of people we encountered during our brief weekend visit.

May in Paris and Provence : A week-long vacation in France with Megue in May 2007. Love, Eat and Raise Kids! - This summarizes our impressions of the value omnipresent throughout the society as free-and-easy tourists. Started with Paris, we took a TGV for an excursion to Luberon in Provence, a (wine-country) valley residing about 1 hour drive east of Avignon.

We were grateful to get to know such open-minded people during our brief visit as Jean & Mary from Paris, Paul & Carolyn as well as Nicolas from Bonnieux, and Lilly from Roussillon.

Our visit coincided with French presidential election on Sunday May 6.

A Summer Week in Beijing : July 2002. Visited Yumiko & Pan-san in Beijing. Yumiko stayed with us 24x7. A typical day was with lasy morning, street watching in the afternoon, Chinese dinner and then late night conversation on life. We managed to surprise Pan-san, out of town for most of the week, as we ended up not visiting Great Wall. A good execuse to visit Beijing again in future.

Esalen Institute, Big Sur, California : Esalen holds a special place in me. I heard about the institute for the first time shortly before I came to study in the US in 1998. In summer 1999, 2000, and 2003, I was delighted to participate in week-long workshops repeatedly, exploring creative sides of myself such as singing, dancing, story-telling and drumming with fellow participants and associates from all over the world. Special thanks to Nina Wise who was amazingly funny and genuine to herself.

Grand Canyon North Rim in Fall : October 2002. Weekend trip to Grand Canyon North Rim with Chuck. Over 6 hr drive through a perimeter of futile land of an Indian reservation. The last weekend before facilities of the area were closed down for winter. Slept two nights in his van. While I was asleep, Chuck drove me to a tip of the rim to see sunrise. He brewed espresso coffee for us afterwards. I was totally spoiled. Stopped over in Flagstaff on the way back.

Israel in 1989 : I spent three weeks in Israel in April-May 1989. The country was in tension as it was in the middle of Intifada, an uprising of Palestinian people in Israel. Monica, a good friend of mine from Tokyo who moved back to Israel shortly before my trip, introduced me to her family and friends. Monica's brother told me that he carries a machine gun for communiting to protect him and his colleagues who work for a military facility. How could I imagine life like that! I was soaking an completely eye opening reality of the world throughout my stay in the country.

Phoenix : The ciy I currenly live - no shortage of sun all the year around; amenity of big city yet flavor of smaller community. As the city is growing fast, Arizona natives are minority. People are generally friendly and receptive to changes. Although some say Phoenix is so big as to be impersonal, life in Phoenix is still simple and laid back for others from busier places. Longer I live here, more I like it.
